An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer. This was lit in the flame, carried to the cigar, and then extinguished and reinserted in its well to soak it for the next cigar. Each tweezer/clamp has a sliding collar to squeeze onto the wick, and this unusual item has the maker's mark for Hirons, Plante & Co. (c1878-1882) of Birmingham, England. This lighter is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than seven shallow dents on the body. A scarce WMF boy with snail pewter card tray circa 1900. This original period Art Nouveau oval calling card salver measures 11" x 5-3/8". it was made in Germany by WMF. WMF is the short form in current company use by the highly regarded German metal manufacturer Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik which began in 1853 in Geislingen an der Steige. This tray has the 210 embossed pattern number and WMFB 0X under the boy's hair on the back. It is all original and not a reproduction and we haven't polished it preferring to maintain the wonderful patina only developed with age (many are over-polished or have been silver plated). A Colossus or Lacy Spiral Burlington Glass clear EAPG water goblet from the 1880s. This 6-1/2" tall antique pressed glass item was made by the Burlington Glass Works of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (1874-97) (and possibly produced by other companies). A Victorian sterling silver ornate link silver coins watch chain necklace from 1895. This exceptional, highly styled chain shows Victorian design at its best. It is 16-3/4" long and it consists of a swivel, coiled infinity knot style links, oblong rod links with interior silver coils along with a swivel, t-bar, silver coins and a gold-fronted sterling scroll style 1-1/8 x 3/4" watch fob. The coins include a Canada 1881 five cent silver piece, a British 1854 three pence coin ("thruppence"), a U.S. 1890 dime (10 cent silver) and a British 1887 silver florin. Each component has a British silver stamp (lion) and the fob has a full set of hallmarks and a registry number (for 1895) as well as the maker's mark for Charles Edward Soloman. A Victorian Aesthetic butterflies gilt basket with a cranberry glass bowl liner dated 1869. This antique serving piece is truly superb, from the immaculately detailed gilded butterfly basket with a swing handle to the original cranberry glass bowl with a polished base. The three feet have fine hand engraving and most unusually each of the seven butterflies has the old English diamond registry mark incorporated into the design, not added or stamped on later. Although unsigned this is a work of superb craftsmanship and the registry number dates the design to 1869. It measures 4-1/2" across and it stands 5-3/4" tall with the handle upright. A pair of stunning hand painted and gilt metal mounted 19th century Sevres style plant pots or jardinieres. This pair consists of two French porcelain 9-1/2" diameter and 7-3/4" tall planters with white glazed interiors and painted scenes on the exterior. The scenes include floral panels and 18th century couples on a deep turquoise blue ground with hand gilding. Each pot is mounted on a footed gilt brass stand, which has two side straps with lion heads with mouth tassels. Each strap is mounted to a top beaded collar anchoring the pot to the fittings. They have a blue painted Sevres style mark and the uprights are stamped AH on the interior. Condition is reasonable considering their age, with the following issues: there is minor gilding loss, one metal arm/upright has been broken in three pieces and it has been crudely soldered and re-broken, some of the screws are replacements and one segment of one support column has been refastened on a different part of the upper collar on one pot. One pot and fittings is intact, the other needs some professional brazing and refitting of the fractured column. The pots themselves are in excellent condition with no crazing, chips, cracks or repairs other than some minor wear to the gilding and some dulling of the interior bottom glaze from use in the past. We've seen the supports offered online on occasion (rescued from broken examples) so it may be possible to replace the damaged one. This handsome matching pair is in as-described condition as stated above. This 9-1/4" (maximum) chain shrinks to 6-1/8" when the two engraved slides are separated (which contracts the chain forming a double chain between them, shown partly drawn in our second image). A 19thC ironstone Wolfe-Montcalm Monument Quebec Canada scenes plate from the 1880s. This rustic 7-3/4" salad size plate is from a series of plates made for the Canadian market depicting various scenes. It was made by the Brittania Pottery in Glasgow, Scotland for Francis T. Thomas of Quebec c1880 as part of a commissioned series of Quebec scenes. It has a view of the Quebec City monument, text in two languages and a border of leaves and beavers. It is in very good condition with no cracks, damage or repairs other than a 1/4" front rim chip and some browning and crazing from heat. A W.E. Welding Brantford Ontario 4 gallon eared stoneware crock with blue floral decoration 1873-94. This attractive, antique Canadian pottery crock measures 12" tall and 11-1/2" across, it has two ear handles and attractive blue tulips decoration with blue splash over the impressed Welding markings. Welding was in business with W.W. Belding in Brantford (1867-72) and went solo in 1873 after their factory burnt down in 1872. The glaze on this pickle or food storage crock is an attractive deep tan with minor dark kiln shadowing, the floral decoration is only slightly blistered and intact and the interior is intact. It is in very good condition with no damage or repairs other than a base chip to the left of the tulips and a tight, inconspicuous hairline on the backside top rim between the ear handles and a tight, slightly branched surface impact crack beside the decoration which doesn't penetrate to the interior. An antique Art Nouveau period Scottish sterling silver two piece belt buckle, depicting the Green Man, a well known creature from ancient United Kingdom mythology. He is associated with birth and re-birth, and the coming of spring. Wide silver buckles of this size - 4-3/4" x 2-3/8" - in solid silver, silver plate or gold were often presented to a young graduate nurses by their families or by consultants at the hospital they were then working as graduate nurses, as their badge was the wide black belt of their nursing uniform. One of my nurse friends who trained in the UK says this practice was still usual into the 1950s. This buckle is fully hallmarked for Glasgow, Scotland 1897-8 and it has the maker's mark for (possibly) James Forest. An early and beautiful genuine Aesthetic period covered entree dish by Copeland Spode c1870-90. This 14 x 7-3/4" English serving piece has lush gilding, relief handles and branch-style finial and fine handpainting over transfer. It has grape and vine leaves, feeding birds, foliage and a butterfly; it is stamped (faintly) COPELAND with various underglaze numbers and letters and it has painted D9875 markings. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than two tiny glaze chars on the base's edge (see image) and some minor craze lines at the bottom of the bowl. A 19th century Dutch red glass bracelet with a 14k clasp. This Victorian era 19th century 7-3/4" hand cut red glass bead four strand bracelet is complete with an unmarked but tested 14k yellow gold clasp. The beads have a rich red garnet colour and the 3/4" wide box clasp has three large faceted red glass beads. It was obtained from the estate of another similar red glass bead necklace which had Dutch gold marks, and this lovely necklace is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some expected minute edge chipping and abrasions to some of the red beads (barely noticeable) and some denting to the clasp. A pair of Victorian 12k yellow gold pierced swinging earrings circa 1880 1890. These stunning antique 1-1/2" x 7/8" (including ear wire) earrings feature a finely detailed ring which swings back and forth across the faceted interior gold ball. They are not stamped, but test as at least 12k gold. 12k was used as part of the United Kingdom gold standard from the 19th century until 1932. They weigh 5.2 grams, and they are in excellent condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a few minor dents on one stationary facetted ball. A Vict. gp & mop fancy spring extendable watch chain. This truly unusual 12" spring-loaded expanding Victorian gold plated over brass watch chain has with mother of pearl sections. This 1/2" wide chain features engraved round links with pierced loops, round thick plain loops and designed flattened patterned loops; it also has two spring-loaded segments with mother-of-pearl inserted sections. Each spring segment has engraving and finely made pivots and channels for the expansion spring; one has what appears to be either an old repair or for some other purpose, possibly a hanging component. It has one original swivel and one that has been added later; it has no identifying marks of any kind. We haven't seen a chain of this style before, and we've seen hundreds. An excellent curiosity. This item is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, dents, corrosion, damage or repairs other than some bending and the loss of one wire to the grooved links, some minor wear to the gold plating, the addition of one swivel and the possible alteration to one spring segment. A Gorham sterling silver coffee pot dated 1899. This 7-3/4" tall tableware serving piece is stamped with the Gorham lion/anchor/G STERLING mark with 1 3/4 PINT and it has the number 14 and the Gorham year cipher for 1899. It weighs 488 grams and it is in very good condition with no dents, bends, corrosion or damage. It has a fancy engraved RLA (or RSA) monogram and the handle is a bit wobbly and it has a couple of replaced handle pinions (in brass) and a bit of cracking to the handle thermal spacers. An 800 silver Art Nouveau floral German napkin ring circa 1900. This high style, high relief table decor item measures 1-1/2" wide and 1-7/8" across the interior. The beautiful design goes around the outside and it has a fancy Gothic B monogram as well as a full set of hallmarks from Germany. It also has the maker's mark for Franz Mosgau of Berlin (est. 1807) and this item dates to the 1895-1900 era. It is in very good condition with a small dent/rim split at the top rim of the napkin ring which is at the seam where the silver was soldered into a ring. It has various small and shallow dents and bends most of which are most likely from the hand forming and embossing of this item. A massive Japanese 19thC bronze jardiniere or plant holder with raised or bas-relief detail. This handsome antique signed Japanese bronze work stands 13-1/2" tall and it measures 11-1/2" across the opening. This is a large example of a classic bowl design, and it has a nice patination (appears somewhat lightened in our photographs to show detail). It features perching and flying birds and floral branches, a decorated collar with bat designs (a sign of luck and prosperity) and incised decoration. It has an applied signature planchet on the bottom, which has not yet been translated. It has some patina inside from use. It is in otherwise excellent condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs except for a minor bend on the foot-rim. An antique 12k gold genuine rhodolite garnets and mine cut diamonds ring circa 1890 1900. This antique size 7-1/2 or 7.5 ring has four genuine true red colour garnets surrounded by twenty genuine mine cut diamonds in a classic marquise shape. This Victorian period piece is unmarked, but has been tested and is confirmed to be 12 K gold. It measures just over 7/8" long and is 5/16" across the elegant marquise shaped setting and it weighs 3.0 grams. Rhodolite garnets most resembled rubies in colour, so were a desirable gem stone even in the 19thC. It is in excellent antique condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. This ring was a popular style at that time, sometimes all in diamonds, but mostly with a less expensive gemstone in the centre for contrast.
