A Scottish sterling silver banded agate sword and shield brooch pin dated 1863. Although a common form this example is one of the most ornate and best constructed we have seen. It measures 2-3/4 x 1", the silver is deeply and intricately tooled and the cut and polished banded agates are well matched and are gray (or grey), white and blue striped. The shield is mounted by wire pins through loops on the sword back and most unusual is a hand-etched British hallmark shield with the letter and number cyphers indicating a manufacturing date of Dec. 6, 1863. This item is in excellent condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a bend to the C from the original c-clasp (easily straightened). A Victorian sterling silver ornate link silver coins watch chain necklace from 1895. This exceptional, highly styled chain shows Victorian design at its best. It is 16-3/4" long and it consists of a swivel, coiled infinity knot style links, oblong rod links with interior silver coils along with a swivel, t-bar, silver coins and a gold-fronted sterling scroll style 1-1/8 x 3/4" watch fob. The coins include a Canada 1881 five cent silver piece, a British 1854 three pence coin ("thruppence"), a U.S. 1890 dime (10 cent silver) and a British 1887 silver florin. Each component has a British silver stamp (lion) and the fob has a full set of hallmarks and a registry number (for 1895) as well as the maker's mark for Charles Edward Soloman. This rustic 7-3/4" salad size plate is from a series of plates made for the Canadian market depicting various scenes. It was made by the Brittania Pottery in Glasgow, Scotland for Francis T. Thomas of Quebec c1880 as part of a commissioned series of Quebec scenes. It has a view of the Quebec City monument, text in two languages and a border of leaves and beavers. A pair of Qing dynasty Chinese cloisonne enamel lobed plant pots or jardinieres. These late 18th/early 19th century shrub pots are similar but not identical. The 7-1/2" x 5-3/4" bowls feature blue grounds and well-executed multi-colour cloisonne designs. They are both footed and each has water drain holes in the bottoms. Each bowl has some damage, with incomplete or chipped enamel under the rims, enamel misses and chips and a large loss to the upper rim enamel on one pot. A Victorian Aesthetic butterflies gilt basket with a cranberry glass bowl liner dated 1869. This antique serving piece is truly superb, from the immaculately detailed gilded butterfly basket with a swing handle to the original cranberry glass bowl with a polished base. The three feet have fine hand engraving and most unusually each of the seven butterflies has the old English diamond registry mark incorporated into the design, not added or stamped on later. Although unsigned this is a work of superb craftsmanship and the registry number dates the design to 1869. It measures 4-1/2" across and it stands 5-3/4" tall with the handle upright. A pair of stunning hand painted and gilt metal mounted 19th century Sevres style plant pots or jardinieres. This pair consists of two French porcelain 9-1/2" diameter and 7-3/4" tall planters with white glazed interiors and painted scenes on the exterior. The scenes include floral panels and 18th century couples on a deep turquoise blue ground with hand gilding. Each pot is mounted on a footed gilt brass stand, which has two side straps with lion heads with mouth tassels. Each strap is mounted to a top beaded collar anchoring the pot to the fittings. They have a blue painted Sevres style mark and the uprights are stamped AH on the interior. Condition is reasonable considering their age, with the following issues: there is minor gilding loss, one metal arm/upright has been broken in three pieces and it has been crudely soldered and re-broken, some of the screws are replacements and one segment of one support column has been refastened on a different part of the upper collar on one pot. One pot and fittings is intact, the other needs some professional brazing and refitting of the fractured column. The pots themselves are in excellent condition with no crazing, chips, cracks or repairs other than some minor wear to the gilding and some dulling of the interior bottom glaze from use in the past. We've seen the supports offered online on occasion (rescued from broken examples) so it may be possible to replace the damaged one. This handsome matching pair is in as-described condition as stated above. An antique Art Nouveau period Scottish sterling silver two piece belt buckle, depicting the Green Man, a well known creature from ancient United Kingdom mythology. He is associated with birth and re-birth, and the coming of spring. Wide silver buckles of this size - 4-3/4" x 2-3/8" - in solid silver, silver plate or gold were often presented to a young graduate nurses by their families or by consultants at the hospital they were then working as graduate nurses, as their badge was the wide black belt of their nursing uniform. One of my nurse friends who trained in the UK says this practice was still usual into the 1950s. This buckle is fully hallmarked for Glasgow, Scotland 1897-8 and it has the maker's mark for (possibly) James Forest. A Loetz Crete Papillon 7" Czech art glass green vase 1890 1900. This period vase has the famous Papillon finish in green (Crete) and this line was introduced in 1898. It has a tapered 3-1/8" across girdle and 2-5/8" base. A Victorian gold filled double slide expanding gentleman's watch fob chain. This 9-1/4" (maximum) chain shrinks to 6-1/8" when the two engraved slides are separated (which contracts the chain forming a double chain between them, shown partly drawn in our second image). A true rarity of vintage American pressed or pattern glass. This is the 5-1/4" long and 4-5/8" wide wall pocket in the Elephant or Jumbo pattern in amber glass, issued by the King Glass Co. in 1890. Variously described as a match holder, match striker, wall pocket or vase, this item has vivid and crisp detail. It is 2-3/4" deep and is guaranteed to be antique glass. This item is in fair original condition with no chips, losses, damage or repairs other than a large internal crack below the eye and above the tusks. This crack is visible from the front and around the back and it appears to be a dividing line between the light upper glass and the deeper amber hue of the glass in the trunk. An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer. This was lit in the flame, carried to the cigar, and then extinguished and reinserted in its well to soak it for the next cigar. Each tweezer/clamp has a sliding collar to squeeze onto the wick, and this unusual item has the maker's mark for Hirons, Plante & Co. (c1878-1882) of Birmingham, England. The 9/16" x 7/16" seal has a full set of hallmarks for Birmingham, England 1897 (probably, since the year date is slightly worn); each link is stamped 9 .375, and the swivel is stamped as well. The seal has a fancy Gothic THC monogram and this well made watch chain weighs 10.9 grams. It is in excellent condition with no losses, dents, corrosion, repairs or damage. An 800 silver Art Nouveau floral German napkin ring circa 1900. This high style, high relief table decor item measures 1-1/2" wide and 1-7/8" across the interior. The beautiful design goes around the outside and it has a fancy Gothic B monogram as well as a full set of hallmarks from Germany. It also has the maker's mark for Franz Mosgau of Berlin (est. 1807) and this item dates to the 1895-1900 era. It is in very good condition with a small dent/rim split at the top rim of the napkin ring which is at the seam where the silver was soldered into a ring. It has various small and shallow dents and bends most of which are most likely from the hand forming and embossing of this item. An antique 12k gold genuine rhodolite garnets and mine cut diamonds ring circa 1890 1900. This antique size 7-1/2 or 7.5 ring has four genuine true red colour garnets surrounded by twenty genuine mine cut diamonds in a classic marquise shape. This Victorian period piece is unmarked, but has been tested and is confirmed to be 12 K gold. It measures just over 7/8" long and is 5/16" across the elegant marquise shaped setting and it weighs 3.0 grams. Rhodolite garnets most resembled rubies in colour, so were a desirable gem stone even in the 19thC. It is in excellent antique condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. This ring was a popular style at that time, sometimes all in diamonds, but mostly with a less expensive gemstone in the centre for contrast.
