A scarce antique period sterling silver filigree posey holder or tussie mussie c1900. Late Victorian or early Edwardian period posey holders, popularly known as tussie mussies in the UK, were used to hold floral bridal bouquets. This ornate but delicate looking 3" long example has a loop for the (now missing) chain which would have terminated in a heavy straight pin which went through the bottom section of the posey to keep it in place. Sometimes the chains were double ended, and the second end had a finger loop This rare solid silver posy holder weighs 25.8 grams. It is unmarked, but had been tested. An Edwardian 14k yellow gold sunburst diamond and seed pearls ring circa 1900 1910. This unusual antique ring of genuine seed pearls and a genuine diamond is in the sunburst or starburst shape popular with lavalieres at the time, it was more likely a representation of a daisy or some other flower. The sunburst has 10 petals with genuine seed pearls and it has a central claw-set 8 point (measured by flat stone gauge) genuine antique European cut diamond; the shank is stamped 14K with a JIC maker's mark. I have never seen this ring before in 38 years in antiques. It is possible that this piece was produced at a slightly later date, but the ring shank is an appropriate one for the period, and the setting is properly mounted and appears original. This ring weighs 6.3 grams, and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses or damage other than some glue residue on a couple of reset pearls (an old repair, and is restorable). The pearls have some colour variation, which is not unusual. An antique sterling silver treasure chest design trinket box, fully hallmarked for London, England 1904. This English Arts and Crafts period 3-3/4" x 1-1/2" hinged box was made by Corke Bros. & Co. It has hand hammered panels with fleur-de-lis decoration and long hinges, and it resembles a treasure or pirate chest. It has a chained pin which inserts into a loop with hasp and a tooled and mounted escutcheon on the top. The interior is gilded, and this lovely small jewel or table tobacco snuff box weighs 80.4 grams. This miniature sterling chest has no tobacco odour, but is the correct size for a table snuff box, and such boxes were usually gilded inside to prevent corrosion. A mother of pearl silver plated fruit set for 12 in the original box from the 1900 era. This late Victorian or Edwardian unsigned set features the solid stained wood box (probably oak) and it has a satin lined lid with fitted plush mounts for the 24 pieces of cutlery. It has a tray holding half the set which consists of the fancy engraved 7-1/2" knives and the 6-1/8" fruit forks. The box has the original lock (but no key) and it has a gilt shield on the top which has never been monogrammed. An antique 14k opals and diamonds and synthetic ruby ring circa 1900. This classic late Victorian period yellow gold ring is set with two natural round cabochon opals with four antique cut genuine diamonds on each side of a central lab created ruby. This size 7 ring has natural opals with fine green and blue fire and a fiery orange internal color. The genuine diamonds are approximately 2 - 2.5 points each and the central synthetic ruby is 4 mm. across. These rings were often engagement or wedding rings for those who could afford them, diamond-only engagement rings didn't become popular until the 20th century. Synthetic rubies of this period were what we refer to as lab created gems now, they are treated genuine lesser price actual gem stones. The lab treatment gives them the appearance of genuine high price gem stones. White sapphires were and occasionally still are a stone of choice, they wear well also, as sapphires are a 9 on the Mohs stone hardness scale. Cut glass or rhinestone copies of stones are not the same. It measures 5/8" x 3/16" across the setting, the ring is unmarked due to a probable re-hooping in the past. It tests as 14k gold,) and it weighs 3.1 grams. A Meiji period Japanese natural paper, bamboo and iron hanging Chōchin lantern in its original wood box. It consists of the ebonized hand-cut and bentwood hanger which has iron fittings with handcut nails. It opens around a pinion for mounting. The 8-3/4" diameter lantern is formed from handmade paper fiber and it has a bentwood collar and base with iron fittings. The top fitting has a handle for hanging and the bottom has fittings for hanging depending on the location. The loop is for securing to the hanger, and the interior of the base has a chain also for hanging and a spike for securing a candle. It has the circled feathers Kamon (also called Mon, or a Japanese family crest) painted in black on the paper as well as Japanese letters. The 12" x 5-3/4" box stands 11-1/4" high and it is darkly stained and also has the mon (family symbol) on the front. The lid has a carved carapace, and it is assembled with handmade finishing nails as well. The work and carving are simple and beautiful, and this lantern is a definite prize, especially since it has survived in such good condition and it has the original fittings and box (which has a taped business card with a note in Japanese in the lid). We have owned just a few of the vintage smaller individual lanterns of this type that are usually carried by a person - this type of Chōchin lantern usually hands from a structure. We have never run across an antique example like this with the box. This lamp is in excellent condition with the expected signs of age, including slight rubbing on the box edges, some minor splits and small holes to the old paper and some minor losses or chipping to the Japanned finish on the hanger. An antique 40 drawer pine store spice cabinet. This exceptional 19th century find is most likely Canadian and it dates from the late 19th century to the very early 20th century. It features four rows of ten drawers each and each row has drawers of a different size (one large drawer has a tin divider which may have been added later). All drawers and the back of the cabinet are constructed of tin and the frame and drawer fronts are of old and very heavy pine. It is of forged nail construction and with this many drawers it was undoubtedly from a store, grocer or apothecary and it would be great for hardware, buttons, sewing supplies or just for display. Most of these cabinets are small and either for a tabletop or wall mounted; this one measures 32" x 18-1/2" x 6-5/8" deep. It weighs an impressive 46-1/2 pounds (old, thick pine is HEAVY) and it retains all of its original porcelain knobs or pulls with brass center screws and nuts. It is unsigned and it has been lovingly refinished and there are traces of old paint in the drawers and on the tin backing. It is in excellent condition with no losses, damage or repairs other than a trim loss on the lower right front corner and the refinishing. This is a stunning c1900 mahogany and brass 1/2 and 1/4 glass plate camera which includes the original tripod, extra plates, plate holders, photographer's guide and other items. Thornton-Pickard was a renowned maker and distributor of fine cameras and this early model, probably a Ruby, is certainly one of the nicest, and in superb original condition as well. It includes the brass mounted mahogany body (serial number 6337) fitted with the brass bottom wheel for mounting of the original three-leg adjustable brass-mounted tripod. It retains the original leather carrying handle (this camera collapses for easy transport). It retains the original black leather bellows which remain in excellent shape (shown slack in one of the pictures - it extends fully and cleanly as expected) and all screws and mounts are intact and fully functional. Also included in this suite is a cardstock case with five unexposed glass 1/4 plates (2 broken, 3 intact), three black patinated metal double sided (#1-6) 1/4 plate carriers in the original cloth wrapped carry case, an extra loose metal mounted plate from one of the carriers, some old newspaper scraps that wrapped some of the plates, four exposed 1/2 plates (uniformed guard, couple in front of house in London, Ontario, three landscapes with a newspaper clipping showing the bridge over a river which is one of the views on the plates) plus a 1/4 plate showing a school soccer player. We have reversed the image with our photo software so you can see the couple (available in our email picture files). Conditon on this intact and rare package is exemplary - some minor corner bashes to the wood of the lens housing and some very minor signs of gentle use and some fraying and loss to the shutter cord and minor wear to the carrying handle, but overall it is astounding this setup has remained intact and in such archive-worthy condition. William Comyns English Arts & Crafts sterling nurse's belt buckle, fully hallmarked for London, England 1901-2. Victorian cobalt glass oil lamp with etched chimney and enamel from the 1890s. This tall table lamp has a 10-1/2" deep cobalt blue base with an open cut pontil, an original Plume & Atwood Mfg. Co. 2-3/4" brass burner and collar and an etched glass 9-1/4" large glass chimney. The burner has a second 1897 renewed patent date and the burner and flat wick show no signs of use at all (no wick char or burner darkening) and there is no smell of lamp oil or kerosene. The body of the lamp has hand painted white, gold and yellow decoration with gold leaves and the chimney has a band of ribbons and torches. It stands a total of 21" tall and it is all-original and not a recent copy. A pair of Victorian 12k yellow gold pierced swinging earrings circa 1880 1890. A Scottish sterling silver banded agate sword and shield brooch pin dated 1863. Although a common form this example is one of the most ornate and best constructed we have seen. It measures 2-3/4 x 1", the silver is deeply and intricately tooled and the cut and polished banded agates are well matched and are gray (or grey), white and blue striped. The shield is mounted by wire pins through loops on the sword back and most unusual is a hand-etched British hallmark shield with the letter and number cyphers indicating a manufacturing date of Dec. 6, 1863. A genuine Chinese late 19th century oxblood glaze classic bulbous shape vase. This vase is 9-1/8" in height and features the lovely brownish red oxblood glaze over a greyish-white ceramic body. It has fairly thick glaze at the base, which shows some frit. It has allover crazing and the surface of the glaze has fine overall pinpoint pitting from firing as well. It is unmarked and it is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than a small area on the upper rim where there is a dullness in the glaze and small shallow depression. (the rim glaze is mostly intact). The glaze at the bottom shows some chipping also, likely caused during removal from the kiln after firing. Some of these pieces were of lesser quality, as there was pressure to produce them to meet the export demand, even in the 19th century. Subsequently, there was less care in their production than in the finer quality 18th century pieces. That is not true of all 19th and early 20th century Chinese oxblood ware, but some pieces like this show that they were produced more quickly and with a little less care than earlier pieces produced for the wealthier in China and elsewhere. An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer. This 7-3/4" tall tableware serving piece is stamped with the Gorham lion/anchor/G STERLING mark with 1 3/4 PINT and it has the number 14 and the Gorham year cipher for 1899. A pair of Qing dynasty Chinese cloisonne enamel lobed plant pots or jardinieres. These late 18th/early 19th century shrub pots are similar but not identical. The 7-1/2" x 5-3/4" bowls feature blue grounds and well-executed multi-colour cloisonne designs. They are both footed and each has water drain holes in the bottoms. Each bowl has some damage, with incomplete or chipped enamel under the rims, enamel misses and chips and a large loss to the upper rim enamel on one pot. An 800 silver Art Nouveau floral German napkin ring circa 1900. This high style, high relief table decor item measures 1-1/2" wide and 1-7/8" across the interior. The beautiful design goes around the outside and it has a fancy Gothic B monogram as well as a full set of hallmarks from Germany. It also has the maker's mark for Franz Mosgau of Berlin (est. 1807) and this item dates to the 1895-1900 era. It is in very good condition with a small dent/rim split at the top rim of the napkin ring which is at the seam where the silver was soldered into a ring.
