A scarce 19th century ironstone 6-3/8" plate in the scarce Canadian pattern retailed and signed by F.T. Thomas, Quebec, Canada. This brown transfer plate features a view of Montmorency Fall Winter View and it has the pattern's beaver, vine and flower border. A Bennington 19th century dog handle hunting scene large pitcher. This 10-1/4" tall pitcher has the typical Bennington mottled deep brown glaze with green and blue slip and a glazed bottom. An antique 12k gold genuine rhodolite garnets and mine cut diamonds ring circa 1890 1900. This antique size 7-1/2 or 7.5 ring has four genuine true red colour garnets surrounded by twenty genuine mine cut diamonds in a classic marquise shape. This Victorian period piece is unmarked, but has been tested and is confirmed to be 12 K gold. It measures just over 7/8" long and is 5/16" across the elegant marquise shaped setting and it weighs 3.0 grams. Rhodolite garnets most resembled rubies in colour, so were a desirable gem stone even in the 19thC. It is in excellent antique condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. This ring was a popular style at that time, sometimes all in diamonds, but mostly with a less expensive gemstone in the centre for contrast. A sterling silver nutmeg grater circa 1890s. It may actually be older. This American antique 1-3/4" x 1-3/8" egg shaped sterling grater has the original interior gilt rasp and interior gilding. Nutmeg was an expensive imported spice when first introduced to Europe and to North America, and it became enormously popular as a condiment. A sterling silver nutmeg grater was a sign of prosperity, as well as indicating a great fondness for the spice, of which aficionados would grate to their own taste when sitting down to eat. Not easy to find them anymore. This antique example features fine ornate leaf hand engraving and a dedication saying Z.S.J. to M.M.J. 25th. Dec 1893. A fine Christmas gift indeed. It is stamped STERLING along the gilt inner rim, the gilding on the interior and rasp is a rich gold in colour and intact. This fancy repousse sets consists of the 9-3/8 x 5" hand mirror with beveled glass, the 9 x 2-3/4" natural bristle hair brush, the 2" across round lidded pomade, salve or rouge pot or box with a gilded interior and an associated (not Unger) 3-5/8 x 1-1/8" natural bristle clothes or dress brush. A Vict. gp & mop fancy spring extendable watch chain. This truly unusual 12" spring-loaded expanding Victorian gold plated over brass watch chain has with mother of pearl sections. This 1/2" wide chain features engraved round links with pierced loops, round thick plain loops and designed flattened patterned loops; it also has two spring-loaded segments with mother-of-pearl inserted sections. Each spring segment has engraving and finely made pivots and channels for the expansion spring; one has what appears to be either an old repair or for some other purpose, possibly a hanging component. It has one original swivel and one that has been added later; it has no identifying marks of any kind. We haven't seen a chain of this style before, and we've seen hundreds. An excellent curiosity. A genuine Chinese late 19th century oxblood glaze classic bulbous shape vase. This vase is 9-1/8" in height and features the lovely brownish red oxblood glaze over a greyish-white ceramic body. It has fairly thick glaze at the base, which shows some frit. It has allover crazing and the surface of the glaze has fine overall pinpoint pitting from firing as well. It is unmarked and it is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than a small area on the upper rim where there is a dullness in the glaze and small shallow depression. (the rim glaze is mostly intact). The glaze at the bottom shows some chipping also, likely caused during removal from the kiln after firing. Some of these pieces were of lesser quality, as there was pressure to produce them to meet the export demand, even in the 19th century. Subsequently, there was less care in their production than in the finer quality 18th century pieces. That is not true of all 19th and early 20th century Chinese oxblood ware, but some pieces like this show that they were produced more quickly and with a little less care than earlier pieces produced for the wealthier in China and elsewhere. An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer. This was lit in the flame, carried to the cigar, and then extinguished and reinserted in its well to soak it for the next cigar. Each tweezer/clamp has a sliding collar to squeeze onto the wick, and this unusual item has the maker's mark for Hirons, Plante & Co. (c1878-1882) of Birmingham, England. A pair of Victorian 12k yellow gold pierced swinging earrings circa 1880 1890. These stunning antique 1-1/2" x 7/8" (including ear wire) earrings feature a finely detailed ring which swings back and forth across the faceted interior gold ball. A scarce WMF boy with snail pewter card tray circa 1900. This original period Art Nouveau oval calling card salver measures 11" x 5-3/8". it was made in Germany by WMF. WMF is the short form in current company use by the highly regarded German metal manufacturer Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik which began in 1853 in Geislingen an der Steige. This tray has the 210 embossed pattern number and WMFB 0X under the boy's hair on the back. It is all original and not a reproduction and we haven't polished it preferring to maintain the wonderful patina only developed with age (many are over-polished or have been silver plated). This impressive and ornate English silver plate steeplechase award cup stands 8-1/8" high and 4-3/8" across and this award trophy is in the shape of a goblet or footed cup. This unmarked beauty features high repousse decoration with fruit and scrolling and it has two cartouches with engraved dedications. One side says WINNER OF R.A.C. A Loetz Crete Papillon 7" Czech art glass green vase 1890 1900. This period vase has the famous Papillon finish in green (Crete) and this line was introduced in 1898. It has a tapered 3-1/8" across girdle and 2-5/8" base. A 9K rose gold Edwardian engraved hinged bangle bracelet fully hallmarked for Birmingham, England 1911. This 1/4" wide hollow bangle features engraving on the front half which extends to the ends of the unengraved back side. It has a hinge, a box clasp and a safety chain. The colour is an intense rose gold and it has both 9 and 375 hallmarks along with an A.L.W.H maker's mark. An antique Art Nouveau period Scottish sterling silver two piece belt buckle, depicting the Green Man, a well known creature from ancient United Kingdom mythology. He is associated with birth and re-birth, and the coming of spring. Wide silver buckles of this size - 4-3/4" x 2-3/8" - in solid silver, silver plate or gold were often presented to a young graduate nurses by their families or by consultants at the hospital they were then working as graduate nurses, as their badge was the wide black belt of their nursing uniform. One of my nurse friends who trained in the UK says this practice was still usual into the 1950s. This buckle is fully hallmarked for Glasgow, Scotland 1897-8 and it has the maker's mark for (possibly) James Forest. This pair consists of two French porcelain 9-1/2" diameter and 7-3/4" tall planters with white glazed interiors and painted scenes on the exterior. The scenes include floral panels and 18th century couples on a deep turquoise blue ground with hand gilding. Each pot is mounted on a footed gilt brass stand, which has two side straps with lion heads with mouth tassels. Each strap is mounted to a top beaded collar anchoring the pot to the fittings. They have a blue painted Sevres style mark and the uprights are stamped AH on the interior. Condition is reasonable considering their age, with the following issues: there is minor gilding loss, one metal arm/upright has been broken in three pieces and it has been crudely soldered and re-broken, some of the screws are replacements and one segment of one support column has been refastened on a different part of the upper collar on one pot. One pot and fittings is intact, the other needs some professional brazing and refitting of the fractured column. The pots themselves are in excellent condition with no crazing, chips, cracks or repairs other than some minor wear to the gilding and some dulling of the interior bottom glaze from use in the past. We've seen the supports offered online on occasion (rescued from broken examples) so it may be possible to replace the damaged one. A Victorian Aesthetic butterflies gilt basket with a cranberry glass bowl liner dated 1869. A Pforzheim Germany plique-a-jour enamel Arts and Crafts necklace from the 1910 era. This stunning survivor from the Edwardian era was made in the Pforsheim area of Germany which was the center of such items. Plique-a-jour (French: "Light of Day") refers to the labour-intensive technique of repeatedly firing enamel in metal-bordered cells resembling cloisonne, resulting in unbacked transluscent panels. This fine example measures 1-7/8 x 15/16", it has a baroque pearl drop and a pink tourmaline in silver (800 grade or better) with pale lavender purple enamel panels. The best exponent of this work was the firm of Levinger & Bissinger who were prime exponents of the Jugendstil movement. Included is a contemporary associated arts and crafts 25-3/8" chain (stamped STERLING on the hook and eye clasp) from which is suspended the pendant on a 4-1/8" drop with a hook suspension. The pendant has an impossible to read mark which appears to be a diamond cartouche containing a B and a possible animal head - a silver mark but as yet unidentified. This piece looks like the work of Levinger & Bissinger but we are unable to definitively confirm it's one of their pieces. This rarity weighs 7.1 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs; a couple of enamel panels show natural striations form their manufacturing process. A rare late Victorian Page or Plato clock, fully hallmarked for London, England 1901. This mechanical marvel features celluloid leaves with handpainted numerals, the top dial for hours and the bottom for minutes. The mechanism flips each page over to tell the time, and it has a round case in sterling silver. Seen occasionally in brass and in lesser metals, silver is very rare and would have been extremely expensive in its day. It has bun feet, a handle and a cylinder of very thin glass for a window. It has retainers to keep the pages open and the winder and adjustment are on the bottom. A C.M. Von Valkenburg Petrolia gold filled pocket watch circa 1900. This 2" across stem-wind pocket watch has a porcelain dial with a single sunk seconds dial and blued hands. It is printed with C.M. VON VALKENBURG PETROLIA (Ontario, Canada) on the face, and the 1-5/8" across works has nice damascening. The works are marked ADJUSTED 2 POSITIONS 17 JEWELS 3876866. We haven't identified the works however the regulator resembles that of Howard or Ball watches. The case is stamped BANNER GOLD FILLED 168653 and it has numerous servicing inscriptions. It has a JES script monogram, and this watch is in very good condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than some minor wear to the gold plating and a small chip to the face at 23 minutes on the dial (covered by the bezel). The mainspring will not hold tension however everything else appears to be working, clean and intact and the time can be easily set.
