An early Victorian 18k Socrates carnelian intaglio signet ring. This antique size 7-3/4 or 7.75 rose gold mid-19th century ring is completely hand made. It and it features a deeply carved carnelian intaglio portrait of Socrates. It is simply executed but stylish with subtle design flourishes. It measures 7/8 x 5/8" across the bezel-set intaglio gem stone. It has a full set of stretched and now obscured hallmarks - it tests as 18K. Although the stone is a substantial size, this ring in the 18thC and 19thC worn on a gentleman's pinkie finger as a pinkie ring. In order to save gold some jewellers would stretch the shank to resize the ring rather than solder another section of gold to effect the sizing and that appears to be the case here. It weighs 8.4 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, it does show wear and patination commensurate with age.

A Victorian Aesthetic silver plated hot water pot by Reed & Barton 1876. This 9-1/4" tall pot is stamped with the Reed & Barton mark, the 2764 pattern number and the patent date of Feb. 1, 1876. An 800 silver Art Nouveau floral German napkin ring circa 1900. This high style, high relief table decor item measures 1-1/2" wide and 1-7/8" across the interior. The beautiful design goes around the outside and it has a fancy Gothic B monogram as well as a full set of hallmarks from Germany. It also has the maker's mark for Franz Mosgau of Berlin (est. 1807) and this item dates to the 1895-1900 era. A Loetz Crete Papillon 7" Czech art glass green vase 1890 1900. This period vase has the famous Papillon finish in green (Crete) and this line was introduced in 1898. It has a tapered 3-1/8" across girdle and 2-5/8" base. A pair of Victorian 12k yellow gold pierced swinging earrings circa 1880 1890. A 19thC 12K carved sardonyx Pericles cameo pendant on a 14K chain. This fine Victorian pendant features a finely carved high relief portrait of Pericles in sardonyx, with the face in white and the base on a translucent reddish brown base. The 5/8 x 1/2" (sans bale) pendant is unmarked and it tests as 12k; the later 15-3/8" chain has a springring clasp and it is stamped ECCO14K. A hand engraved rose gold filled large photo locket from the 1880s. This ornate 1-7/8 x 1-3/8" locket has a 5/8" bale and each side has different decoration. A genuine Chinese late 19th century oxblood glaze classic bulbous shape vase. This vase is 9-1/8" in height and features the lovely brownish red oxblood glaze over a greyish-white ceramic body. It has fairly thick glaze at the base, which shows some frit. It has allover crazing and the surface of the glaze has fine overall pinpoint pitting from firing as well. It is unmarked and it is in good condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs other than a small area on the upper rim where there is a dullness in the glaze and small shallow depression. (the rim glaze is mostly intact). The glaze at the bottom shows some chipping also, likely caused during removal from the kiln after firing. Some of these pieces were of lesser quality, as there was pressure to produce them to meet the export demand, even in the 19th century. Subsequently, there was less care in their production than in the finer quality 18th century pieces. That is not true of all 19th and early 20th century Chinese oxblood ware, but some pieces like this show that they were produced more quickly and with a little less care than earlier pieces produced for the wealthier in China and elsewhere. A Vict. gp & mop fancy spring extendable watch chain. This truly unusual 12" spring-loaded expanding Victorian gold plated over brass watch chain has with mother of pearl sections. This 1/2" wide chain features engraved round links with pierced loops, round thick plain loops and designed flattened patterned loops; it also has two spring-loaded segments with mother-of-pearl inserted sections. Each spring segment has engraving and finely made pivots and channels for the expansion spring; one has what appears to be either an old repair or for some other purpose, possibly a hanging component. It has one original swivel and one that has been added later; it has no identifying marks of any kind. We haven't seen a chain of this style before, and we've seen hundreds. An excellent curiosity. A C.M. Von Valkenburg Petrolia gold filled pocket watch circa 1900. This 2" across stem-wind pocket watch has a porcelain dial with a single sunk seconds dial and blued hands. It is printed with C.M. VON VALKENBURG PETROLIA (Ontario, Canada) on the face, and the 1-5/8" across works has nice damascening. The works are marked ADJUSTED 2 POSITIONS 17 JEWELS 3876866. We haven't identified the works however the regulator resembles that of Howard or Ball watches. The case is stamped BANNER GOLD FILLED 168653 and it has numerous servicing inscriptions. A rare late Victorian Page or Plato clock, fully hallmarked for London, England 1901. This mechanical marvel features celluloid leaves with handpainted numerals, the top dial for hours and the bottom for minutes. The mechanism flips each page over to tell the time, and it has a round case in sterling silver. Seen occasionally in brass and in lesser metals, silver is very rare and would have been extremely expensive in its day. It has bun feet, a handle and a cylinder of very thin glass for a window. It has retainers to keep the pages open and the winder and adjustment are on the bottom. It has the maker's mark for the Charles S Green & Co Ltd and it has had a professional case-off cleaning and adjusting, involving a complete piece-by-piece disassembly and reassembly. A Pforzheim Germany plique-a-jour enamel Arts and Crafts necklace from the 1910 era. This stunning survivor from the Edwardian era was made in the Pforsheim area of Germany which was the center of such items. Plique-a-jour (French: "Light of Day") refers to the labour-intensive technique of repeatedly firing enamel in metal-bordered cells resembling cloisonne, resulting in unbacked transluscent panels. This fine example measures 1-7/8 x 15/16", it has a baroque pearl drop and a pink tourmaline in silver (800 grade or better) with pale lavender purple enamel panels. The best exponent of this work was the firm of Levinger & Bissinger who were prime exponents of the Jugendstil movement. Included is a contemporary associated arts and crafts 25-3/8" chain (stamped STERLING on the hook and eye clasp) from which is suspended the pendant on a 4-1/8" drop with a hook suspension. The pendant has an impossible to read mark which appears to be a diamond cartouche containing a B and a possible animal head - a silver mark but as yet unidentified. This piece looks like the work of Levinger & Bissinger but we are unable to definitively confirm it's one of their pieces. This rarity weighs 7.1 grams and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs; a couple of enamel panels show natural striations form their manufacturing process. An early and unusual pair of c1900 direct reading micrometers by J.T. Slocomb of Providence, Rhode Island. These 6-1/2" long hand-held thickness gauges are similar to the standard shaft-read micrometers except they have an indicator disc and pointer indicating the depth of the measured item (in this case probably sheet metal). They are painted cast iron with machined brass shafts and dials; they are each stamped with the maker's name on the shafts. One has an applied black marking disc with white numerals (up to 250) while the other has a brass face. They are in original untouched condition with only minor paint losses and surface oxidation from age and use; we have lightly oiled the brass and cleaned off the dirt. This pair is in excellent original condition with no dents, bends, losses, damage or repairs other than a bit of surface roughening to the brass and the minor paint loss. A 9k yellow gold Edwardian rhodolite garnet and seed pearls ring fully hallmarked for Chester, England 1903. This size 6 ring features three seed pearls on each side of the natural garnet and it has an Ionic column design on the shoulders and shank and it is 1/4" wide across the top of the ring. It weighs 3.1 grams and it is stamped with the hallmarks and a maker's mark T&S (probably W.H. Tandy & Sons (1896-1957). An Art Nouveau sterling daisy flower purse handle chain from the 1900 era. This 16-3/8" chain consists of oval daisy flower cast sterling silver links which are 3/8" wide. Originally on a late Victorian purse, this chain has two large loop for mounting but it could easily have a clasp added for use as a necklace (or a doubled bracelet).
