A 10k yellow spinel gold ring from the 1950s. This vintage size 7-3/4 or 7.75 yellow gold ring features a claw-set faceted 5/16" x 1/4" across pale yellow spinel. The spinel is an emerald cut gem stone and this ring weighs 2.4 grams. One of the claws comes up above the ring in a lined curl, sort of in an abstract modernist wave design, a bit of an unusual assymetrical look. A Birks 14k man's 3 diamonds row ring in yellow and white gold circa 1950s. The size is approximately size 14, or may be a little larger, as our ring mandrel (ring sizer bar) doesn't go any higher. This vintage gentleman's diamond band is stamped BIRKS (indistinct), it tests as 14k gold and it has an independent gemologist appraisal for $1000 CAD from 2008. The additional marks may have been lost a sizing, as sometimes happens. The diamonds include: one brilliant cut diamond .22 pt diamond of I-1 clarity and F-G colour, two single cut diamonds of SI-2 tand I-1 clarity, I-J colour 0.05 pt total. The ring weighs 4.8 grams. Please note that the large diamond has a very tiny chip, as noted in appraisal, so this factor is included in the independent evaluation. This ring features a claw-set oval faceted 12 carat (calculated) synthetic alexandrite with lush purple and intense blue colour. These simulated alexandrites are usually corundum laced with vanadium to produce the color change under different types of lighting, or a treated colourless chrysoberyl. This created gemstone has been around for almost 100 years, and the stones usually test as corundums or sapphires on a gem tester (natural genuine alexandrites of this colour are expensive and uncommon, and most of what you will see for sale is the paler or simulated version).
