A set of 4 Chinese Qing dynasty tea bowls and saucers. These antique porcelain blue and white 1-5/8" tall tea bowls or cups and 4-5/8" wide saucers date from 1736-1795. It is possible they are slightly older. This antique Chinese porcelain set has a man on a horse holding a small twig, followed by a servant carrying provisions. The background shows a tree starting to flower. My interpretation is that he was looking for indications that winter is over, so the important work of spring can begin. The scenes are the same on the saucers and the outside of the cups, decorated borders, and interior flowers in the cups (possibly prunus/plum), but everything is hand painted, so no pieces are identical. These tea bowls were more likely produced for the Chinese rather than European taste. The porcelain is a fine quality. All pieces are unmarked, and they are in reasonably good condition, but with no losses, damage or repairs other than sone very fine edge chips on the cups and a fine partial hairline crack in one saucer. Please note that all pieces have the expected glaze irregularities including burst bubbles, tiny firing cracks on the bottom rim of one cup, bottom rim chips on one saucer, and a few tiny firing pits/dark kiln specks from the manufacture of these pieces. A pair of Qing Dynasty Chinese blue and white deep plates from the 1730-1795 era, or possibly earlier. These rare ~9" across survivors are hand painted in blue on a grey ground, and they have the brown Batavian edge glaze. These Qianlong plates are 1-1/4" deep and they have the expected glaze frit, tiny glaze burns, pitting and flaws except for a 1/4" upper rim chip and central burst bubble central glaze flake on one bowl and a 1/4" chip under the rim on the other. Overall they are in fine condition with no cracks, major flaws, repairs or wear, and they would be a fine addition to your Chinese blue and white collection. A rare, early English flow blue three piece soup tureen c1850-60. This tureen stands 11" high with the lid, and the matching, fitted underplate measures 14-3/4" x 13". It has a floral style motif, and it has an impressed S as well as a pseudo Chinese mark, minor variants of which were used by Charles Meigh (1835-49), Charles Meigh & Son (1851-61) and also Job Meigh (c1805-34), all of Hanley, Staffordshire; we feel it dates from c1850-60 but it could possibly be of earlier manufacture. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, losses, damage or repairs other than a tight 1-3/4" craze-like hairline near the lid's finial, some overall crazing, a few scattered craze lines to the bowl. A pair of early Staffordshire figurines of eagles on vermicular or marble painted bases from 1820-1850. These well modelled heavily gilded 19thC English earthenware eagles are 7-3/4" tall. Both have tilted heads and back-stretched wings. They have purple, yellow and orange marble-like painting on the simple rectangular shape bases. The mustard yellow rocky perches have a blue flower. They not signed with a manufacturer's stamp, unfortunately fairly common with Staffordshire figures. They are in very good, but not undamaged condition. One is undamaged with only a firing crack, which is original to the manufacture of the figurines (see image), and the other has had the lower portion of one wing and the head re-glued. Some wear to the gilding. The breaks and repair are quite clean and it could be restored professionally. The only pair of Staffordshire eagles I have owned in over 40 years selling antiques. The firing crack is very small with only small expected disturbances (including slight browning to the beak of one eagle) which don't detract from the appeal of these unusual figurines. An English Georgian period pair of hand painted soft paste porcelain cake bowls or baskets made by Derby, England circa 1800 1825 (this firm was later known as Royal Crown Derby). These 11" x 8-1/4" baskets have the red painted Derby mark of this period, and they feature wonderful floral hand painted sprays and gilding. This pair is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, staining, repairs or damage other than some minor loss to a bit of overglaze painting on one bowl (restorable) and some overall fine crazing. We seldom see pairs of fine cake baskets from this period any more. A pair of mid-19thC ornate Meissen style covered urns. This amazing and massive pair of mid-19th century French porcelain 19" covered mantle urns were made by M.S. Claus, France. They are fully hand painted and in the Meissen style, and both are extravagantly festooned with hand-formed and applied flowers and leaves. Each is topped with a similarly decorated lid, topped with a figure of a child. The colours are bright and vivid and they have the crossed swords mark for Claus and a 1777 pattern number. Each has had some restoration - the child with the umbrella finial has a repaired and repainted base and the lid has a large firing crack (on the interior edge and not visible when on display). It also has some gold wear to the lid's rim, and the base has a large area of restoration and painting to the upper rim and a firing crack to the outer shoulder. The other urn's lid has a similar interior firing crack, and the base has a similar repair to its rim as well (which also has a crack on the repaired area). Each urn has some minor expected chipping and losses to the flowers, and this pair is in very good/reasonable condition with a good appearance, and they could be completely restored if desired. This is an assortment of hand painted over transfer French dinnerware pieces in the Moss Rose pattern, made by Haviland Limoges c1871. Made by many firms over many years, this collection was made by Haviland & Co. Limoges, France. All pieces are stamped with the H&Co. or H&Co/L mark; the entree dishes have an impressed English registry mark (for 1871) plus an underglaze impressed H & Co. It is probable that Haviland purchased the blanks from an English firm for decoration and sale to the English market. All serving pieces have maritime or rope twist handles.
