A pair of Helen Kalvak Inuit screened burlap hunting scene pictures. Kalvak (1901-1984) was from Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories, Canada and she was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. This was followed in 1978 by her appointment to the Order of Canada. These screened burlap pictures are framed and they measure 18-1/4 x 15-1/4" and they have a sight size of 13-1/2 x 10-1/4". The wood frames have an antiqued finish and one shows a bow and arrow hunter killing a goose (in natural burlap brown) and the other depicts fishing (in green burlap). They are in excellent condition with no fading, rips, tears, staining, damage or repairs however the backing cardboard on the fishing screen print shows some water discolouration. An Eiichi Kotozuka Evening Snow At Kiyamachi 1950s framed woodblock Japanese print. This large Oban size print is by Kotozuka (1906-1979) and it has a sight size of 15-1/4 x 10-1/4". It has been matted and framed with a black painted bamboo style 23 x 18-1/4" frame with the print affixed to the mat. The print itself may be 1/4" larger on all sides due to the mat. It has one of the artistic "Koto" seal signatures below the print title as well as the Uchida publisher seal on the upper left of the print. Kiyamachi Street is located in Kyoto, Japan and it is a world heritage site of considerable beauty. It has a Joske's of Texas foil label on back (the department store that sold and framed this print) and the paper has been subtly embossed giving a nice three dimensional effect. Although this print was glazed when we obtained it we will be shipping it without the glass in order to protect the print from damage if the glass were to break in shipment. It is in excellent condition with no staining, tears, fading, damage or repairs. An antique, splendid hand painted 3-1/4" high lidded dresser or vanity jar, possibly for powder or storage. This Japanese Royal Nippon item features lush gold trim with jewelling and it depicts finely hand painted red and pink roses with foliage. It is signed with a Japanese seal signature on the bottom. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs other than a bit of light gold wear and a couple of small paint misses on the lid. An ornate and richly decorated Chinese cloisonne enamel vase c1900 in the Persian taste. This 16" decorative vase features a blue ground with colourful flowers, leaves, flower buds and branches in pink, white, brown, red, pink, orange, blue and green. The decoration is allover in a chintz style and unusually this vase has a tab style collar standing proud from the body. It also has a pair of gilded animal head handles. It is unsigned and it has the expected blue bottom and interior finish and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A Meiji period Japanese natural paper, bamboo and iron hanging Chōchin lantern in its original wood box. It consists of the ebonized hand-cut and bentwood hanger which has iron fittings with handcut nails. It opens around a pinion for mounting. The 8-3/4" diameter lantern is formed from handmade paper fiber and it has a bentwood collar and base with iron fittings. The top fitting has a handle for hanging and the bottom has fittings for hanging depending on the location. The loop is for securing to the hanger, and the interior of the base has a chain also for hanging and a spike for securing a candle. It has the circled feathers Kamon (also called Mon, or a Japanese family crest) painted in black on the paper as well as Japanese letters. The 12" x 5-3/4" box stands 11-1/4" high and it is darkly stained and also has the mon (family symbol) on the front. The lid has a carved carapace, and it is assembled with handmade finishing nails as well. The work and carving are simple and beautiful, and this lantern is a definite prize, especially since it has survived in such good condition and it has the original fittings and box (which has a taped business card with a note in Japanese in the lid). We have owned just a few of the vintage smaller individual lanterns of this type that are usually carried by a person - this type of Chōchin lantern usually hands from a structure. We have never run across an antique example like this with the box. This lamp is in excellent condition with the expected signs of age, including slight rubbing on the box edges, some minor splits and small holes to the old paper and some minor losses or chipping to the Japanned finish on the hanger. A Fukagawa double gourd vase 1900-20. This fine quality and likely late vintage Meiji-Taishō era 4-3/8" tall Japanese porcelain hand painted vase is by the renowned Fukagawa Porcelain Company firm of Japan c1900-20. This vase has a blue tassel and two painted small floral groups in gold, green, orange and black. There is a gold upper rim. The mark is the Mount Fuji and stream with the Fukagawa signature, identified on gotheborg.com as being is used from 1900-20. We were also informed this was purchased in the 1920s. The darkness under the base is old glue from an applies felt bottom which is no longer present (we will clean the glue residue before shipment). This item is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs. A pair of Cree stitchwork leather gauntlet gloves from the 1930s-40s. This lovely pair of vintage Cree gauntlets or long mittens has fine hand stitch-work floral decoration; they are hand stitched deer hide with cut fringes, and they have a yellow felt interior. This pair is in excellent original condition with no losses, damage or repairs other than some folding of the fringe from storage.
