A gilt metal and screen-printed plastic pub advertising sign for Whitbread Tankard beer circa 1950s 1960. This vintage 8-5/8" x 3-1/8" bar table or counter advertising sign has white, gold, red and gold screening on a royal blue plastic oval, set in to a metal tripod-style base. Whitbread Tankard is an English beer, first introduced in 1958 or 1959 by the Whitbread brewery. (The Whitbread brewery is no longrer in business). A true rarity of vintage American pressed or pattern glass. This is the 5-1/4" long and 4-5/8" wide wall pocket in the Elephant or Jumbo pattern in amber glass, issued by the King Glass Co. in 1890. Variously described as a match holder, match striker, wall pocket or vase, this item has vivid and crisp detail. It is 2-3/4" deep and is guaranteed to be antique glass. This item is in fair original condition with no chips, losses, damage or repairs other than a large internal crack below the eye and above the tusks. This crack is visible from the front and around the back and it appears to be a dividing line between the light upper glass and the deeper amber hue of the glass in the trunk. It can't be felt from the front but can be felt with a fingernail on the interior - the integrity of the piece is intact. A Georgian 12-1/8" sterling silver stuffing or dressing spoon circa 1809. This fine antique serving item is fully hallmarked for London, England 1809-10 and it is in the Fiddle pattern.
