It is marked BIRKS STERLING 20/53 and it has the year mark for 1947. The silver bowl weighs 122 grams which doesn't include the liner, and it has never been monogrammed. An Italian mosaic pin brooch and screw back earrings from the 1930s-40s. This attractive set features multicoloured roses and flowers on a turquoise ground. The glass tesserae are quite fine and they are set in filigree wirework gold plated brass. The pin measures 2 x 1-3/8" and the screwback earrings are 3/4 x 5/8". A Japanese sterling silver inlaid metal cigarette case from the 1940s. This well-made and decorative 4-1/4 x 3-1/4" smoking accessory has black patination and inlaid copper both outside and inside the front cover. It also has black patination and hand incising and tooling on both sides and surfaces. The view is a copper bridge over a stream with mountains and trees in the background. It has a pushbutton clasp, a metal cigarette retaining strap and a signature on the back cover which may be a maker's mark or a description of the scene. It has the Japanese rising sun silver mark with STERLING on the inside and it weighs 109.7 grams. This size 5-1/2 or 5.5 ring features a round 1/2 carat (50 point) ruby (medium dark, purplish-red, moderately included, slightly chipped) surrounded by twelve brilliant cut diamonds (26 points total, VS, F-G-H colour) in a flower setting. The leaves have a fine beaded edge. This ring measures 9/16" across the setting, it weighs 3.1 grams and it is stamped BIRKS and 14 K. It has a conservative independent gemological appraisal for $1700 (Canadian). A 14k white gold man's diamond with black onyx bullseye ring by Birks from the late 1930s 1950. This vintage size 7 men's ring by Birks Canada has a central 21 point genuine diamond which has a round black onyx stone bezel set around the centre stone. It is stamped BIRKS and 14 K and another mark. The whole ring is white gold, and was custom made at Birks. The ring comes with an independent gemologist's appraisal for $2000CAN. The diamond measures 21 points (measured in setting) and is SI-1 clarity and I-J colour. There are two quite minutes chips at the bezel, visible only with a loupe, and this was mentioned in the appraisal of $2000 CAD. The ring measures 5/16" across the top and it weighs a substantial 6.7 grams; it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. It was photographed before being cleaned, so there are vestiges of surface grime visible in our photos.

A detailed intaglio Laws Scottish family crest sterling silver seal ring from 1900-1930. This vintage size 7 ring features the family crest from the Laws family with a cockerel atop the shield and the quote from Horace (30 BCE) "COMPOSITUM JUS TASQUE ANIMI" which has various translations referring to justice, uprightness and nobility of the soul (one version states "A mind which respects alike the laws of mutual justice and of god"). It is a true seal ring, with the crest in reverse so it will appear correct on the actual seal. It is shown reversed in one of our images so you can read it. This classic gentleman's pinky ring is stamped STERLING. It has signs of an earlier resizing which likely caused the sterling mark to be barely visible in the last two letters and no maker's mark is presentand it weighs 11.8 grams. This ring is stamped 10K with a crowned M maker's mark. It weighs 2.2 grams and it is in very good condition with no cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs however there is a shallow corner chip and a patina of wear to the bezel-set opal's face which somewhat clouds the underlying flash of the stone. This example features ornate gold stencilling on the black patinated wood, orange bellows and a pierced chrome plated grille. This unit is clean and fully functional (and LOUD) and the straps and bellows are in superb condition.
